Cape Verde is an island country located on archipelago with the same name in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the coast of Africa.

For tourists, it is a country with an extremely favorable climate (25 – 30C or 75-85F degrees C all year round), the land of endless sandy beaches, and one of the prime spots in the world for surfing, diving and sports fishing. Tourists can freely move from one island to another on small but modern planes.

The whole archipelago owes its birth to volcanoes, and they determined its appearance. For example the roads here are cut right into the lava and they paved with the materials out of it. Volcanic lava also emerges here as a material for traditional rural dwellings. Lovers of everything exotic can relax on the beach with black volcanic sand.

There are top notch hotels on every island, despite of the absence of the world famous chains.  The islands are also noted for nonexistence of exotic dangers, such as malaria, cholera and tsunamis.

To breathe in the peace and tranquility of Creole life is exactly what the young family needs before heading back into busy and hectic reality.

The local cuisine is refined and varied. Its main ingredients are of course fish and shellfish in all their local abundance. Animal meats are slightly less common. The following deserts are very popular here: coconut tarts, cassava and papaya puddings, banana and honey cakes, sweet potato jams, green fig, orange, pineapple and banana salads.

Mandatory program

  • Diving: the most interesting places for diving are located near the islands of Sal, Santiago and Boa Vista – shipwrecks, reefs, rocks and caves inhabited by numerous marine creatures. Each of the islands has diving centers that welcome both novices and professionals. The most optimal time to explore the underwater world is from April to November.
  • Surfing: even if you never tried this sport before, here you will not be able to resist the breathtaking adventure. Cape Verde is famous for its ideal conditions for conquering the waves, be it surfing, wind surfing or kite surfing. The largest surfing centers are located on the islands of Sal, Boa Vista and San Vicente. The most ideal season is from December to April.
  • Safari: traveling off road in an ATV in the desert and hiking in the volcanic mountains will allow you to appreciate the original and the majestic beauty of these places. The island of Santo Antao is the most picturesque and interesting for hiking.
  • Fishing: places near the island of Sol are considered the best for deep sea fishing. You can catch blue and white marlin, dorado, wahoo and a variety of other exotic fish.
  • The town of Mindelo on the island of Sao Vicente is a tourist capital of Cape Verde and the most romantic place in the archipelago. This is the place where the former Portuguese colony retained a lot of attractions. The buildings of colonial architecture with charming carved balconies and shady patios will immerse you in the atmosphere of measured Creole life.
